Van Driver for Student Transport

 

Responsibilities

Transport a small number of passengers in a safe and timely manner.  The van driver follows a pre-determined route that may extend beyond county lines.  This individual must exhibit patience and kindness in communicating with passenger(s).  The individual must be readily available to assist the passenger in entering (fasten seat belt securely) and exiting the vehicle as well as securely entering the building at his/her destination.  The driver reports to dispatcher/planner dangerous stops, turns or traffic situations or passenger issues.  The driver maintains accurate logs and records of passenger(s), vehicle mileage, and vehicle requested repairs.  The driver keeps the van clean and well-maintained.  The driver performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle on a daily basis.  The driver reports all accidents at the scene of the accident.  The driver accepts other duties as deemed necessary by the Transportation Department Director. 

 

Qualifications

  • Must be able to physically operate a seven-passenger mini-van in a safe and timely manner
  • Must be able to safely operate vehicle in all kinds of weather and on all types of highways, roads, and streets
  • Must have an excellent driving record and practice defensive driving techniques
  • Must be able to follow a route sheet and adhere to a driving schedule
  • Must have extensive knowledge of the geography of the assigned area and the location of streets, and must be able to follow route sheets that may extend beyond the borders of Stokes County
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, students and Transportation staff
  • Must display professionalism by functioning in a respectful and respectable manner
  • Must have the ability to maintain student confidentiality at all times
  • Must have strong effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have recordkeeping skills and the ability to submit daily required vehicle records
  • Must be able to use a cell phone, two-way radio and/or walkie-talkie and exhibit effective professional communication skills
  • Must be a high school graduate or have a GED diploma

 

Salary

Grade 51B, $15.00/hour (experience can be considered)
